An Easter treat recipe made with pretzel sticks, melted chocolate, and colorful homemade fondant “Peeps” chicks and bunnies.
16 thin pretzel sticks
180 grams white fondant (4 45-gram golf ball sized balls)
Pink, yellow, purple, and blue gel food coloring
25 grams dark or milk chocolate (2 tablespoons)
Edible glitter, for dusting
Line a quarter sheet tray with parchment or a silicone mat.
Divide the fondant into portions, one for each color you plan to make. With gloved hands, work 1-2 drops of gel food coloring into each portion. (When not in use, wrap each fondant ball in clingfilm/plastic wrap to prevent it from drying out as you work.)
Shape each color into chicks and bunnies, each about 1 1/2 inches in size.
Press each decoration onto the top of a pretzel stick, creating a deep indentation.
Remove the fondant decoration and arrange on prepared tray. (As you work, keep the tray covered with a sheet of clingfilm/plastic wrap to prevent the decorations from drying too quickly.) Dust with edible glitter.
Melt the chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl.
Dip one end of each pretzel stick in the melted chocolate, then secure a fondant decoration on top.
Dip a food-safe paintbrush in melted chocolate. Paint two dots on each bunny or chick to create eyes.
Allow tray to sit at room temperature, uncovered, until chocolate sets. Do not refrigerate.
Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two weeks.
