How to Make Simple Syrup

A basic simple syrup for moistening cakes, making cocktails, or sweetening beverages like coffee, iced tea, and lemonade.

Ingredients

Scale

300 grams granulated sugar (1 1/2 cups)
240 milliliters water (1 cup)


Instructions

In a medium saucepan, stir together granulated sugar and water. Bring to a boil, stirring gently until sugar dissolves.

Simmer over low heat for 5 minutes. Do not boil.

Remove from heat. Set aside and allow syrup to cool completely, about 1 hour.

Use as desired.

Store simple syrup in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 weeks.
