Made with freshly-squeezed limes and a scratch-made ginger simple syrup, this ginger limeade recipe offers a spicy twist on traditional lime or lemonade.

Why Make This Ginger Limeade Recipe?
I always enjoy using citrus in my recipes. While lemon is frequently my go-to (think lemon curd, lemon hand pies, or lemon icebox cake…) it’s also fun to switch things up and make lime-based recipes instead.
I’ve recently enjoyed making coconut lime coconut truffles and raspberry lime whoopie pies, and I love a good lime simmer pot in winter. But during the warm summer months, I reach for this trusty ginger limeade recipe at least once a month.

Ginger Limeade Recipe Ingredients
This ginger limeade recipe only requires two ingredients (plus water, of course!) Start by gathering:
- Limes – You’ll need 120 milliliters of freshly squeezed (not bottled) lime juice. This equals about 1/2 US cup, or the juice of about 5 large limes.
- Ginger Simple Syrup– I developed this recipe using my own ginger syrup recipe. If you’re in a hurry, feel free to substitute a store-bought ginger cocktail syrup.

Tips for Juicing the Limes
Whether you’re making limeade, lime curd, or margarita lime cheesecake bars, your first step will always be juicing the limes.
To make juicing easier, start with soft, ripe fruit—if the limes are too firm (or too old), they won’t be very juicy. I usually roll my limes on the countertop to soften them up before juicing; you can make things even easier by popping the entire, unpeeled/unsliced fruit in the microwave for 10-15 seconds. If you’ve never tried this hack, you’ll be surprised to discover just how much easier it is to juice a lemon or lime if it’s a little bit warm!
Before whisking the lime juice with the ginger simple syrup, I also recommend passing the freshly squeezed juice through a fine mesh strainer to remove any seeds or little pieces of pulp.

Serving and Garnishing Homemade Limeade
For a classic presentation, garnish your glasses with lime slices; place a wedge of lime on the rim of the glass; or use a Microplane to zest fresh lime peel over the ice.
You can also play up the ginger notes by garnishing each glass with pieces of candied ginger, or emphasize the green by adding green-and-white-striped straws or sprigs of bright green fresh mint.
Some other ideas include: Floating fresh berries (blueberries, blackberries) or edible flowers on top of each glass; making candied citrus peels or dried citrus peels and using these for decoration; or dunking the rim of each glass in coarse sugar for a sweet presentation which mimics the classic salty margarita cocktail.
Make-Ahead and Storage Suggestions
