Why Make Iced Tea with Lavender?

Nothing says summer quite like a tall glass of iced tea. And while you can never go wrong with a classic pitcher of green or black tea, it’s also fun to “dress up” your drink with seasonal flavors like peach, blueberry, or lavender.

Lavender is such an underappreciated ingredient. Add it to cakes, cookies, or homemade ice cream. Turn it into sugar cubes or simple syrup. Infuse the dried flowers into freshly whipped cream. Toss it into a simmer pot for a DIY stovetop potpourri. Or stir it into summer beverages, like lavender iced coffee, lavender lemonade, or this lavender iced tea.

Made with brewed black tea and homemade lavender simple syrup, this refreshing, floral-inspired drink works equally well for bridal showers, warm weather gatherings, or lazy, early summer afternoons.

Lavender Iced Tea Ingredients

To make this lavender tea recipe, you’ll need the following:

A pitcher, six tea bags, and a dish of lavender syrup on a marble surface
Lavender tea ingredients

Preparing the Lavender Syrup

I recommend using my lavender simple syrup recipe to make your own lavender syrup from scratch.  (It really is easy! Just combine sugar, water, and dried lavender in a pan on the stovetop, steep for an hour, then pass through a fine mesh strainer to remove the flowers. ) The finished syrup lasts for several weeks in the refrigerator, so you can use to make multiple pitchers of tea, or add to other beverages like iced coffee or lemonade.  It’s nice in lavender cocktails, too.

How to Make Iced Tea with Lavender

To make iced tea with lavender, add black tea bags to a large pitcher, cover with boiling water, and steep for ten minutes.

Remove the tea bags with a slotted spoon and stir in lavender simple syrup, along with another splash of water.

Refrigerate until cold, pour over ice, and enjoy! This homemade lavender tea is incredibly easy to make, and lasts for 2-3 days in the fridge. It also allows you to adjust the sweetness and flavor by adding more lavender simple syrup to taste.

Garnish Ideas

Some ideas for garnishing iced lavender tea include: Fresh lemon wedges, slices of dried lemon, or candied lemon peels; green herbs such as basil or mint; sprigs of fresh lavender, or homemade lavender sugar cubes; edible flowers; or fresh fruits like blueberries, strawberries, or blackberries.

As a finishing touch, serve each glass with a pretty swizzle stick, a honey straw or honey spoon, or one of these whimsical purple striped straws.

Make-Ahead and Storage Suggestions

You can prepare the lavender simple syrup several days (or weeks!) in advance, and refrigerate it in an airtight container until ready to use. I actually prefer to make the syrup in advance, since it takes at least an hour for the lavender flavor to infuse into the sugar syrup.

Store leftover iced tea in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

Recipe can be doubled or tripled. Remember adjust the pitcher size accordingly.
