An easy cardamom tea recipe made by simmering black tea, cardamom pods, cinnamon sticks, and other spices in a small pan on the stovetop.

Why Make This Cardamom Tea Recipe?
On cold days, I like to make a small pan of spiced cardamom tea on the stovetop. Add whole spices to a pan of simmering water, toss in a black tea bag, and in just a few minutes, scents of cinnamon, ginger, and cloves waft through my tiny apartment kitchen.
To finish, I like to pour the steeped tea into my favorite mug, stir in a little honey, and add a splash of milk (sometimes dairy and sometimes oat, depending on what I have in the fridge!) It’s the perfect single serving beverage for spicing up a chilly afternoon.

Cardamom Tea Ingredients
To make this cardamom tea recipe, you’ll need the following:
- Whole Spices – I used cinnamon sticks, whole cardamom pods, and whole cloves. (Whole spices often come in big bags, but save the rest! They’re great for making fragrant simmer pots during the chilly winter months.) Do not use ground spices for this recipe; they’re too fine to remove with a mesh strainer and will produce a gritty, grainy beverage.
- Fresh Ginger – I used a 1-inch piece of fresh ginger for my cardamom tea. If you have some left over, use it to make your own candied ginger, or a jar of ginger simple syrup.

- Black Tea – You’lll need a single, good-quality black tea bag. I prefer the Yorkshire brand.
- Honey – You can sweeten your tea with honey, agave nectar, date syrup, or another liquid sweetener, to taste.
- Milk – I usually prefer black tea, but for cardamom tea (and chai!) I sometimes add a splash of milk. Oat milk, unsweetened almond milk, or dairy milk will all work nicely.
How to Make Cardamom Tea
To make cardamom tea, start by combining water and whole spices in a small saucepan, and bringing it to a gentle boil. Then remove the pan from heat, add a single black tea bag, and allow everything to steep for a few minutes (the longer the steep, the stronger the tea—I usually steep mine for about 3 minutes) before passing the contents of the pan through a fine mesh strainer to remove the tea bag and spices.
Then just pour the strained liquid into a mug, stir in honey and milk to taste, and enjoy.

An easy cardamom tea recipe made by simmering black tea, cardamom pods, cinnamon sticks, and other spices in a small pan on the stovetop.
Ingredients
300 milliliters water (1 1/4 cups)
1 2-inch cinnamon stick
1 1-inch piece fresh ginger, peeled and thinly sliced
3 whole cardamom pods
2 whole cloves
1 black tea bag
1 teaspoon honey, or to taste
Whole milk or plant milk, optional, to taste
Instructions
Add water, cinnamon stick, sliced ginger, cardamom pods, and whole cloves to a small saucepan.

Bring to a low boil. Reduce heat to low and simmer 2 minutes. Remove from heat.

Add the black tea bag and allow to steep 2-3 minutes, or as desired.*

Pass through a fine mesh strainer to remove the tea bag and spices.

Pour into a mug. Stir in honey and milk, if using. Taste and adjust, adding more milk or sweetener as desired.

Serve immediately.

Notes
*You can adjust the steeping time depending on your preferred strength. I enjoy a stronger black tea, and usually steep mine for about 3-4 minutes.
