These easy, four-ingredient everything bagel puff pastry pinwheels with cream cheese work equally well as a snack, appetizer, or accompaniment to a bowl of soup.

Why Make These Everything Bagel Puff Pastry Pinwheels?
Everything bagel seasoning is a staple seasoning blend consisting of black and white sesame seeds, dried onion, garlic granules, poppyseeds, and flakes of sea salt. It mimics the flavor of a classic NYC everything bagel, but these days you’ll find it spicing up everything (ha!) from pretzels to potato chips.
Like pumpkin spice and ranch dressing, everything bagel seasoning is one of those American staples that I taught myself to make from scratch after I moved abroad and discovered that they don’t really exist outside of the US.
And once felt confident making my own everything bagel seasoning, I began to experiment with all of the ways I could use it in recipes. I discovered that it’s great for making everything bagel bread; for seasoning eggs, potatoes, or sliced avocado; or for decorating puff pastry snacks and appetizers, like cheese twists, a butternut squash tart or a mushroom tart, or these everything bagel cream cheese roll-ups.
Made with just four ingredients (puff pastry, beaten egg, cream cheese, and everything bagel seasoning, of course!) these puff pastry pinwheels make perfect appetizers, and they’re great for breakfast or brunch, too.

Ingredients for Making Puff Pastry Cream Cheese Pinwheels
To make these everything bagel puff pastry pinwheels, you’ll need the following ingredients:
- Puff Pastry – You can use store-bought or homemade pastry. If frozen, thaw the pastry according to the instructions on the package.
- Cream Cheese – Soften the cream cheese (or start with spreadable cheese or “soft cheese”) before assembling the log. If the cream cheese is too cold, it won’t spread easily, and you’ll tear the pastry in the process.

- Egg – Egg-washing gives the pastry its deep golden brown color.
- Everything Bagel Seasoning – Store-bought or homemade. See my notes below.
Notes on Everything Bagel Seasoning
You can make these cream cheese pinwheels using store-bought everything bagel seasoning (Trader Joe’s sells a good one), but it’s also quite easy to make your own. Plus, homemade everything bagel seasoning allows you to adjust the ingredients to suit your personal taste preferences, so you can add more garlic, more salt, more seeds, or whatever suits your fancy.

If you have extra everything bagel seasoning, use it to bake a loaf of everything bagel bread, or sprinkle it on anything from poached eggs to potato wedges to avocado toast. I also use my homemade seasoning to dress up my other puff pastry recipes, like cheese twists and anchovy sticks.
How to Enjoy Everything Bagel Pinwheels
I love adding these everything bagel puff pastry pinwheels to appetizer trays, along with other puff pastry favorites like cheese twists, anchovy sticks, pineapple pizza rolls, and pesto pinwheels.
For breakfast or brunch, pair everything bagel pinwheels with omelettes, scrambled, or soft-boiled eggs. Or, serve everything bagel pinwheels as an accompaniment to a tossed green salad or a bowl of vegetarian chicken noodle soup for a light lunch.

Recipe Tips and Tricks
- Keep your knife clean. Keep a damp cloth nearby and use it to wipe excess cream cheese from your knife between cuts.

- Thaw the pastry. If using frozen puff pastry, thaw according to the instructions on the packaging.
- Soften the cheese. Soften the cream cheese (or start with spreadable cheese or “soft cheese”) before assembling the log. If the cream cheese is too cold, it won’t spread easily, and you’ll tear the pastry in the process.
- Use a mini palette knife. I like to use my small stepped palette knife to spread the cream cheese, and to lift the rolls from cutting board to baking tray.

Make-Ahead and Storage Suggestions
Everything bagel pinwheels are best enjoyed on the day they are made, either at room temperature or while still slightly warm.
Wrap leftovers in foil and refrigerate for up to 2 days. Eat cold, or arrange on a parchment-lined tray and heat in a 350° F / 176° C oven for 5-10 minutes, or until warmed through.

Everything Bagel Puff Pastry Pinwheels with Cream Cheese
A four-ingredient recipe for everything bagel puff pastry pinwheels with cream cheese, puff pastry, and everything bagel seasoning.
- Prep Time: 20 minutes
- Chilling Time: 30 minutes
- Cook Time: 25 minutes
- Total Time: 1 hour 15 minutes
- Yield: 16 pinwheels 1x
- Category: Appetizers
- Method: Oven
Ingredients
1 sheet puff pastry, thawed according to package directions if frozen
140 grams cream cheese, softened (5 ounces)
1 medium egg, lightly beaten
35 grams everything bagel seasoning, store bought or homemade (3 tablespoons)
Instructions
Line a half-sheet rimmed baking tray with parchment or a silicone mat.
On a silicone rolling mat or lightly floured countertop, gently unroll the puff pastry. Use a rolling pin to make the pastry a few inches wider, or a sharp chef’s knife to trim away any excess. When finished, you should have a 10 x 12-inch rectangle. Position the rectangle with the longer side facing you.

Place cream cheese in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave on medium power for 10-15 seconds, or until soft enough to spread. With a small stepped palette knife, spread the cheese over the puff pastry, allowing a 1/2-inch border along the bottom edge.

Roll the pastry toward you to form a tight log.

With a pastry brush, egg wash the bottom border, then pat the seam with your fingertips to seal.

Lightly brush the entire log with a thin coat of egg wash.

Scatter everything bagel seasoning across the countertop or rolling mat. Roll log back and forth in seasoning until completely coated.

Place log on a plate or small tray. Refrigerate 30 minutes. Meanwhile, preheat oven to 400° F / 205° C.

Place log on a chopping board. With a sharp chef’s knife, slice crosswise into 3/4-inch slices. You should have about 16 slices total.

Transfer to prepared tray, allowing 2 inches of space between each pinwheel.

Bake in preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until lightly golden brown.

Transfer to a wire rack to cool. Serve warm or at room temperature.

Wrap leftovers in foil, or place in an airtight container. Refrigerate for up to 2 days.
